Italian Hand Calligraphy:
Bridging History, Form and Expression

Italian Hand calligraphy is a wonderfully expressive script to add to your calligraphy practice, regardless of whether you’re picking up a dip pen for the first time or you’re an old hand with hands. It occupies unique terrain in the calligraphic landscape as an elegantly swashed and blobbed bridge between print and cursive, broad-edge and pointed-pen.

This course is an immersive introduction to Italian Hand. Over four sessions, we'll trace the history of the script to late Renaissance Italy and Europe, break down core concepts for study, dig into tools and materials, and explore stylistic variations to use as jumping-off points for developing your own interpretations.

Each class will be a mix of live demonstration and directed hands-on study time, with opportunities for individual, in-class feedback.

All live sessions will be recorded and available to review for 60 days following the last class.
